I believe it's for mobile applications. But I really like the animation style. It looks like it took alot of work to make, hence the insanely long loading time. It's work enough to create something like this with 3D Animation software. I can't imagine using a combo of that, AND flash.

Rather makes my brain hurt just talking about it. I would say that perhaps this isn't the most inspirational simply because there is a little bit too long of a wait for the loading screen, and then the navigation is a little funky, even when you get to what I assume is the main site.

Oh well....it's too nice outside to think about this any longer.

Project 3 - Research for Inspiration

For some reason I've been having trouble with accessing the GDS server at home. So I've decided to post my research on my blog!

1. http://www.kitchenconcepts.info/

What I liked most about this was the intro page! I love the varied movement and the way the enter page disappears to go into the main website. Absolutely brilliant!

2. http://www.square-enix.com/na/ -

Again, I really like the into. Well, if you could call it an intro. It's more like a video. But I also like the simple black color scheme.

3. http://www.redmusiconline.com/ -

I love this band! I am a huge fan, and their website has a nice feel to it. The way the first picture loads is SO cool!

Skateboarding Goat - with human hands?

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_G-WyOuuBn6c/SsU71xinLKI/AAAAAAAAAHY/huIwqN0XdE0/s320/goat.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387778324236283042" />

First of all, I have to say......I LOVE this graphic! It's hilarious. I mean come on, a skateboarding goat; could it get any better? Ha ha!

But since this is a graphic design class, I suppose that I should talk about the aesthetics of this piece. It's really nice because of the complicated, yet attention getting color scheme. I enjoy the cool green and blue colors, combined with the warmer multicolored dots in the mid-ground. The one thing I am uncomfortable with in this image, however, is the fact that everything is so crowded together. I would have preferred that the "Make Something" banner had a bit more of a margin from the goat's head, because I feel like he's being crushed, and there is just a bit of a feeling of tension that is rather uncomfortable.

Other than that, I find this image highly fascinating, and definitley attracts attention. And really, isn't that what the company wants?

This image was taken from HOW: Design & Creativity; June 2009 edition

Have a great weekend everyone, I will see you in class on Tuesday!

Serious Commitment

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_G-WyOuuBn6c/SrlOoXnNEPI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/RvSEA5yQuEU/s320/blog.jpg" border="0" alt="Paper Ad"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5384421284938322162" />

I know what you're thinking! Where's the design in this? This is just type on a page, and a picture - it's boring!

Au contraire, my friends. This design has a nice, clean, less - is - more approach that really states the fact that it's not enough to hug a tree. You have to embrace a whole new way of living, by buying their "environmentally responsible" paper (also laser compatible!). The image is humorous, interesting, and really grabs your attention. Because honestly, who would really hug a tree like this?

I think alot of designing is not only having the photoshop skills, the Illustrator know- how, or whatever. It's also being able to grab the attention of the commercial public with your design - no matter how simple or complicated. After all, graphic designers are primarily commercial artists!

If you're interested, the company's website is here, http://www.internationalpaper.com/. However, I got the ad from Communication Arts Magazine; May/June 2008 Edition.

As always, thanks for taking the time to read my blog!

Friendship Xpert

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_G-WyOuuBn6c/SrK2sOusLuI/AAAAAAAAAHI/DS6d17rwhhY/s320/blog2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382565375645593314" />

Yeah, I know I posted two blog entries in the same day. But I forgot one last week, and I decided that I should double post today to make up for it. Shame on me!

I really like this alot! Normally, I am not a fan of overcrowded design/busy design, but this one really looks good (to me) because of the red and gold color scheme. Even the bulldog itself retains some gold/brown variation. But then again, maybe I'm biased because I am using a similar color scheme in my submission for Project 1!!! Ha ha!

My only real complain is the black box/bar/whatever at the bottom. I don't know if it's the color, or the fact that it's so large....but it feels really loud. But then again, maybe that was the intention.

Again, This was found in Print Magazine, December 2008 LXII:VI

Say Hello To Classic Linen!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 206px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_G-WyOuuBn6c/SrK0aMGp42I/AAAAAAAAAHA/B5p71cYku_Q/s320/blog1.jpg" border="0" alt="Overleaf in "Print" magazine"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382562866679898978" />

I was browsing through one of the magazines in the lab, and found this overleaf. It's an advertisement for recycled paper. One of the really cool things about this ad (that you can't see in the scan) is the fact that the edges are jagged and resemble the kind of effect you would get with those funky craft scissors.

My (personal) favorite thing about this ad is the color scheme. I don't like orange as a general rule, mainly because I don't look good in it, and people tend to over saturate it. Somehow, though, the addition of white type and abstract white art (maybe it's a cotton plant?) makes it really cool and happy-feeling. It actually makes me hungry for those orange cream-sickle things- they are the same color!

This was found in Print Magazine, December 2008 LXII:VI

The Dark Is Rising

I do realize that this isn't a scan from a magazine in Parkland's library, but I wasn't able to make it to the library on time, and my schedule doesn't allow for the returning of periodicals the day after I check them out. At least, not this week.

But, I digress....

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 207px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_G-WyOuuBn6c/SqBzVQUBAXI/AAAAAAAAAGY/XsNp6Un3poI/s320/darkisrising.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377424764073738610" />

I really enjoy this design. Normally, I am not a fan of busy, crowded designs; this one, however, I really like. I love the unity in all the shades of blue, and the repetition of the swirly design throughout. I enjoy the emphasis on the shadowy rider (by the way it is placed in the middle).

I suppose, however, that I would change the yellow type at the top and bottom of the book cover. It doesn't flow well with the cool color scheme of the rest of the book. If it had been me, I might have chosen white or some shade of green. However, it is a very enjoyable design.

I am ashamed to admit, however, that this book has been sitting on my shelf for almost a year, and I haven't picked it up yet. I guess I am a sucker for good design.

Have a wonderful weekend! See you all Tuesday!
